General Legal Aid Program

In addition to its thematic programs, Legal Aid of Cambodia maintains a general legal aid practice that provides free, high-quality legal assistance to underprivileged individuals whose cases fall outside the organization’s specialized programs. Through this work, LAC ensures that vulnerable people are still able to access legal support and exercise their rights before the law.

As the only remaining independent legal aid organization providing nationwide services in Cambodia, LAC plays a critical role in safeguarding access to justice for those who cannot afford legal representation. The program supports a wide range of legal needs, including criminal defense for indigent accused persons, particularly those in detention, as well as legal assistance for victims seeking protection and accountability.

This program reinforces LAC’s commitment to system-wide change, helping transform Cambodia’s justice system from a punitive model toward one that is equitable, accountable, and rights-based.
