Women face unique challenges in the justice system.
Legal Aid Cambodia provides specialized legal support and protection tailored to their needs

Legal Aid of Cambodia’s Women’s Justice Program works to ensure that women and girls affected by gender-based violence can access justice, protection, and legal support. Established in 2008, the program provides free legal advice and representation to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and family disputes, helping them navigate complex legal processes and pursue accountability.
Operating in Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, and Kampong Cham, LAC works alongside local authorities and service providers to strengthen case management, improve referral systems, and ensure that survivors—including women with disabilities—can access inclusive and effective justice services.
LAC also provides specialised legal aid services for women in conflict with the law, ensuring access to gender-sensitive legal assistance at all stages of the justice process. The program supports women detainees and prisoners by offering legal representation, advice, and case follow-up, while working to safeguard their rights and dignity.
In addition, LAC delivers targeted training for prison staff, including guards and administrators, in line with the United Nations Bangkok Rules. These trainings promote gender-responsive and rights-based approaches to the treatment of women prisoners, with particular attention to the specific needs of survivors of violence, women with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. LAC also empowers women in prisons through legal awareness sessions, equipping them with knowledge of their rights and available legal remedies.
Through legal support, advocacy, and capacity-building, LAC is advancing a rights-based approach to justice for women and girls, ensuring they are able to seek protection and legal remedies safely and with dignity.
